Cosmetic Acupuncture

What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Cosmetic acupuncture (facial / ‘anti-aging’ acupuncture) is a gentle, non-injectable, non-surgical approach to facial rejuvenation.

As we age collagen production declines by approximately 1% per year from the mid 20’s and by the age of 65 can be reduced by up to 30%. A collagen reduces, the dermis of the skin becomes thinner, looses its elasticity and volume which gives the visible signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines, reduced elasticiy / sagging, dryness and thinning of the skin and a reduction in volume and structural support.

The insertion of needles enhances circulation, muscle tone and collagen turnover. Research has shown cosmetic acupuncture can show a reduction in glabella lines (frown lines), improved skin tightness, better skin hydration, enhanced blood circulation and elasticity.

Cosmetic acupuncture typically produces gradual and subtle improvements over 5 weekly sessions. Most treatment protocols involve 8-12 sessions and maintenance ‘boosters’ thereafter. Improvements in skin texture and muscle relaxation tend to build over time as collagen remodelling occurs. Results also vary with skin type and lifestyle.
